Hyper MBBR

MBBR and IFAS systems with hydrodynamic mixing

Hyper MBBR is an advanced biological treatment system that combines moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) technology with high-efficiency hydrodynamic mixing and fine-bubble aeration, improving oxygen distribution and media movement within the reactor.

HOW IT WORKS

How it works Hyper MBBR

Conventional MBBR systems rely on coarse-bubble aeration to supply oxygen and move the media at the same time. This raises energy consumption by up to 40% and increases media collisions, causing biofilm detachment and lower treatment efficiency.

Hyper MBBR separates the two functions: a Hyper Mixer generates gentle, uniform hydraulic movement of the media, while dedicated fine-bubble diffusers transfer oxygen with high efficiency.

Hydrodynamic mixing

An engineered impeller generates gentle, uniform circular movement of the media without high shear forces.

Fine-bubble aeration

Diffusers producing bubbles under 2 mm increase the gas–liquid contact area.

Separation of functions

Aeration for oxygen only and mixing for media movement only, raising efficiency and stabilizing the biological system.

ADVANTAGES

Key advantages

Less biofilm detachment

Gentle movement reduces media collisions and preserves biomass.

Higher oxygen transfer

Fine bubbles transfer more oxygen, by 25–30% than coarse bubbles.

Lower energy

Total energy reduced by approx. 30–40%, especially at low organic loads.

Longer media life

Less abrasion extends media life and reduces replacement and cleaning.

High biological stability

Faster response to load changes and faster recovery after operational shocks.

Media with a surface area of 550 m²/m³

Compatible with Maskoub's MBBR high-surface-area media.

FROM THE EXPO

From the Maskoub stand at AquaEnergy Expo

“Instead of using large volumes of air to turn over the bio-media, we use a Hyper Mixer with very low power consumption, and fine bubbles for oxygen.”
