AquaPharos
As the Lighthouse of Alexandria guided ships, AquaPharos guides seawater flow safely. An intake head mounted at the end of the seabed intake pipe, it lets water enter horizontally from all directions at low velocity, protecting fish and marine life and reducing the intake of sand and seaweed. The same unit also works as an outfall, dispersing desalination brine or cooling water in all directions for rapid dilution.

Fish have a sensory organ (the lateral line) that detects horizontal currents so they swim away, but they do not sense a vertical current drawn into an open pipe. That is why water enters AquaPharos horizontally and at low velocity; the US EPA 316(b) standard sets 0.15 m/s as the maximum intake velocity.
The upper plate slopes slightly toward the center, and the lower plate ends in a streamlined bell-mouth into the pipe, so the water turns gradually with less turbulence and lower pressure loss.
Perimeter entry
Water enters horizontally between the upper and lower plates around the full perimeter.
Low velocity
The large inlet area keeps velocity low; fish sense the horizontal current and swim away.
Coarse screening
12 perforated radial plates block large objects and regulate flow distribution.
Bell-mouth
Guides water into the pipe with a gradual turn.
Outfall mode
The reverse occurs: perimeter discharge dilutes the brine rapidly.
Key advantages
Protecting marine life
Horizontal entry and low velocity.
Intake and outfall in one unit
Disperses brine in all directions.
Bell-mouth
Gradual turn and lower pressure loss.
No moving parts
Optional compressed-air cleaning depending on the site.
Resistant materials
Stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, epoxy-coated steel.
Duplex welding
In Maskoub's own workshops.
